“Statehouse Republicans are gifting Iowans another billion-dollar budget deficit,” Sen. Petersen (D-Des Moines) said. “The majority party has no plan for the level of revenue growth needed to get us out of the hole they dug.

“They’ve already taxed Iowans’ health insurance and underfunded our public schools,” Sen. Petersen said. “What comes next for Iowans while the majority party burns through the state’s safety net funds at this unsustainable pace?”

“Republican lawmakers are hundreds of millions of dollars below their five-year financial projection and there doesn’t appear to be any light at the end of this tunnel,” Sen. Petersen said. “It’s time to clean up this mess and get back to focusing on Iowans’ priorities.”

Sen. Petersen is the Ranking Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee.
